Description

Analysis Note Undecenoic acid is an eleven-carbon monounsaturated fatty acid and is naturally found in the body. It is used as a topical antimicrobial in the following forms; powder, ointment or spray. It treats a wide variety of skin infections that are caused by fungus; jock itch, athlete’s foot, diaper rash or itching, burning in the groin area. This method demonstrates the complete dissociation of zinc undecylenate to undecenoic acid for detection without the use of any derivatization reagents. This application along with the free undecenoic acid determined in acetonitrile application may be utilized to determine the amount of zinc undecylenate in the powder formulation.
