Analysis Note Human immunoglobulin A (IgA) can exist in two forms: a monomer (~150 kDa) in the serum and a dimer (~300 kDa) in mucosal secretory tissues. Serum IgA (monomeric) functions as an anti-inflammatory antibody by interacting with CD89 on immune effector cells. Serum IgA was chromatographically analyzed on a BIOshell IgG 1000 Å C4 column and compared to a fully porous, 300 Å C4 column. The BIOshell IgG column displayed superior resolution and recovery over the competitor column.
