The BIOshell™ A400 Protein C4 column is a high-speed, high-performance liquid chromatography column based on a wide-pore (400 Å) Fused-Core® particle design.

BIOshell™ A400 Protein C4 columns contain 3.4 μm particles with 400 Å pores, which are derivatized with dimethylbutyl silane and exhaustively endcapped for optimum protein recovery.

At the same back pressure, analysis times on 3.4 μm BIOshell™ A400 Protein C4 columns are up to three times shorter than on columns packed with fully porous 1.7 μm, 300 Å, silica C4 particles and these columns can be operated long-term at pressures up to 600 bar (60 MPa or 8500 psi), temperatures up to 90 °C and within the pH range of 2 to 9.

BIOshell™ A400 Protein C4 columns are eminently suited for the reversed phase separation of high molecular weight compounds such as monoclonal antibodies and proteins with MW of 400 to 500 KDa.

The Fused-Core® particle of BIOshell™ A400 Protein C4 provides a thin porous shell of high-purity silica surrounding a solid silica core. This particle design exhibits very high column efficiency due to the shallow diffusion paths in the 0.2 µm thin porous shell and the small overall particle size of 3.4-microns.
