Certified Ethanol Standards – NIST Traceable

Worldwide, 1 in 25 deaths is attributable to the excessive consumption of alcohol and costs nation economies more than 1% of their gross national product.1,2 In the United States, where 51.5% of adults are current regular drinkers, excessive alcohol consumption is estimated to cost over 200 billion USD. Governments around the world, concerned with rising rates of alcoholism have begun to implement alcohol prevention policies. The U.S government, in 2010, for example, signed into law The Affordable Care Act (ACA) which expanded health insurance coverage for U.S citizens to include alcohol abuse treatment and testing.3

A critical component of blood alcohol analysis is the calibrator used for quantitation of results. Cerilliant Certified NIST Traceable Ethanol Standards are manufactured and tested to the highest industry standards. Cerilliant is accredited to ISO Guide 34 and ISO/IEC 17025, certified to ISO 13485 and ISO 9001, and compliant with ISO 17511 and ISO 15194.

Sigma-Aldrich's Cerilliant brand demonstrates NIST traceability for each certified ethanol standard in multiple ways, ranging from analytical verification of the standard’s concentration against a NIST SRM and a control using a validated method to the use of balances calibrated with NIST traceable weights for the standard’s gravimetric preparation and solution fill as well as balance calibration. Weight sets for all balance calibrations are calibrated externally by an ISO 17025 accredited calibration laboratory to NIST standards.
