NIOSH 5030

Cyanuric acid can be produced by hydrolysis of crude or waste melamine followed by crystallization. It is also used as a chlorine stabilizer in swimming pools, binding to free chlorine and releases it slowly, extending the time needed to deplete each dose of sanitizer. This test method uses HPLC (UV detection) to monitor cyanuric acid. HPLC method for measurement in solution is a variation of the method of Briggle et al. Ingestion of methanol may cause blindness or death. Methanol is a fire hazard (flash point 12 °C).

Analysis Type (Application Method): HPLC-UV
