NIOSH 6004 (Issue 2)


This test method uses a ion chromatography to measure sulfuric acid, sulfate salts, and sulfite salts are collected on the front filter and may be quantitated as total particulate sulfate. Sulfur dioxide is a toxic gas with a pungent, irritating smell. It is released naturally by volcanic activity and is produced as a by-product of the burning of fossil fuels contaminated with sulfur compounds.

Compatible Filters:

Two 37 mm cassette filter holders (connected in series) containing: a. (Front cassette) 0.8 μm cellulose ester supported by a backup pad. b. (Back cassette) cellulose filter (example Whatman 40 paper) which has been saturated with fixative solution and dried, supported by a porous plastic support pad. Forceps to handle filter membrane.
