Pharmaceutical and Drug Standards for Wastewater Testing

In 2008 an Associated Press investigation identified numerous pharmaceutical and personal care products in drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans. The publication of this report and others highlight a growing interest in the presence of these compounds across the world’s drinking water supplies. In December 2007, the US EPA published Methods 1694 and 1698 for the detection of pharmaceutical and personal care products, steroids and hormones in wastewater and other environmental samples.

Sigma-Aldrich's Cerilliant brand offers a wide variety of Certified Solution Standards® for EPA Methods 1694 and 1698 including drugs, metabolites, impurities and stable-labeled internal standards of antiepileptics, antidepressants, antihistamines, opiates, steroids and hormones, cardiac drugs, nicotine and related alkaloids, NSAIDs, and stomach acid inhibitors. Each certified reference standard is manufactured to the highest industry standards including ISO Guide 34 and ISO/IEC 17025 and supported by a comprehensive Certificate of Analysis (COA). Our COAs provide all analytical data and uncertainty and traceability information to support regulatory requirements.
