Silver nanoparticles have extraordinary properties at the nanoscale, which are enabling a wave of innovative commercial products. Many of these new applications are in the field of bionanotechnology where the strong interaction between silver nanoparticles and specific wavelengths of light is utilized for applications such as sensing, imaging and therapeutics. Dr. Steve Oldenburg has over 20 years of nanotechnology experience beginning with his graduate work at Rice University where he discovered a method of fabricating gold nanoshells, a nanoscale composite material that consists of a spherical silica core surrounded by an ultra-thin shell of gold. This discovery led to the formation of Nanospectra Biosciences where the gold nanoshells are in clinical trials as a cancer therapy. After Rice, he joined Seashell Technology where he was responsible for identifying and developing commercial applications of nanotechnology, raising capital, and managing the scientific research team. In 2004, he founded nanoComposix to accelerate the commercialization of products based on precisely engineered and highly characterized nanoparticles.  He is also a co-founder of Sienna Labs, a company that is developing therapies based on novel medical pigments. Steve has 6 issued patents and has over 30 nanotechnology publications that have received over 5000 citations.
