Application

Phthalic acid may be used in the synthesis of benzoic acid.[1] It may be used to constitute the mobile phase during hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) coupled with electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometric (ESI-MS/MS) analysis of free amino acids (AAs) in human thyroid tissues.[2]

General description

Phthalic acid (1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid) is an aromatic dicarboxylic acid. On heating, it undergoes dehydration to afford cyclic anhydride. It can be synthesized from phthalic anhydride.[1]
