Application

Sodium carbonate has been used as a component in BG11 liquid media for cyanobacterial growth[1] and in G625 growth medium for Anabaena flos-aquae.[2] It has also been used to impregnate mixed-cellulose ester (MCE) filter.[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Buffer component, may be used for the removal of peripheral membrane proteins.
Sodium carbonate helps to improve the pretreatment of rice straw and develops delignification process.[4]

General description

Sodium carbonate is also termed as soda ash. Solvay process uses sodium chloride and limestone to produce sodium carbonate.[5]

Other Notes

Salt component in the fractionation of multivalent nucleotides by inorganic salt co-precipitation.
