General description

HPLC column
Superspher® Si 60 is a versatile HPLC spherical silica sorbent with a particle size of 4µm and a pore diameter of 60A for normal phase chromatography. This sorbent is packed into a Hibar 250-4 HPLC column. For mounting of a LiChroCART 4-4 guard column, the guard column holder 1.51487 has to be used.

Questions

  1. What type of mobile phase is used with the LiChrospher Si for the analysis of water-insoluble oils?

    1 answer
    1. The LiChrospher Si 100 (5um) Hibar TS 250-4 HPLC column is suitable for use in normal phase and HILIC modes, as well as SFC. For water-insoluble compounds that are organic solvent soluble, normal phase mode is the mode of choice. The mobile phase for normal phase mode includes n-hexane, n-heptane, dichloromethane, and dichloroethane, with small amounts of diethyl ether, methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, acetone, isopropanol, ethanol, or methanol as modifiers to shorten retention time. An example is 95% hexane/5% ethyl acetate. The combination of solvents used depends on the analytes of interest.
