1-Octanol is saturated fatty alcohol with potential application as a biofuel due to its diesel-like properties.[4]

1-Octanol may be used in combination with methanol as the mobile phase, to obtain a lipophilicity index for a set of complex molecules, using reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography method (RP-HPLC).[5]
