Application

Carbonate-Bicarbonate Buffer has been used for suspending the lyophilized human plasma sample for microtiter plate biofilm assay and flow cell biofilm assay.[1] It has also been used as a coating buffer for microtiter plates prior to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).[2][3]
Prepared buffer is suitable for use in protein coating procedures on multiwell plates or plastic tubes.

General description

Bicarbonate buffer mostly have a pH close to 7.4. It is the major small intestine buffer.[4]

Preparation Note

Empty the contents of one capsule in 100 mL of deionized water and dissolve. The contents of one capsule yields 100 ml of 0.05 M carbonate-bicarbonate buffer, pH 9.6 at 25 °C.

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. 純粋に溶解した場合、カプセル自体も溶解しますか。

    1 answer
    1. The capsules are not intended to be dissolved. After opening each capsule, the contents should be added to the appropriate volume of deionized water while stirring. The contents of one capsule is sufficient to prepare 100 mL of 0.05 M carbonate-bicarbonate buffer, pH 9.6. This buffer is comprised of 15 mM in sodium carbonate and 35 mM sodium bicarbonate.

  3. If I make a solution and there are reagents left, how long can it be stored? What should I do with the storage conditions?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, the long term stability of the prepared solution has not been determined. However, prepared solutions are expected to be quite stable. Similar Sodium Carbonate/Bicarbonate 20X solutions are assigned a 2 year shelf life. Provided that solutions are stored refrigerated and not contaminated, a comparable shelf life is expected. Solutions should be observed for any changes in color and turbidity. Please see the link below to review the prepared 20X Concentrate product options:

  4. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf
