Administered intramuscularly in oil, it offers improved pharmacokinetics and sustained plasma concentrations, primarily metabolized by CYP3A4/5. 17-OHPC activates progesterone-responsive genes, reducing uterine contractility and maintaining cervical integrity, potentially via anti-inflammatory effects, notably by increasing IL-10 production.
