βEl β-mercaptoetanol o 2-mercaptoetanol se ha utilizado:
  • como suplemento en el medio Roswell Park Memorial Institute (RPMI)-1640 para el cultivo de células DT40 (línea de células de pollo) [1]
  • para lisar células NuLi-1 (Normal Lung, University of Iowa-1)[2]
  • para tripsinizar células madre embrionarias de ratón[3]
BME es idóneo para reducir los puentes disulfuro de las proteínas antes de la electroforesis en gel de poliacrilamida y suele incluirse en un tampón de muestra para SDS-PAGE a una concentración de un 5 %. La escisión de los puentes disulfuro intermoleculares (entre subunidades) permite que las subunidades de una proteína se separen de forma independiente en la SDS-PAGE. La escisión de los puentes disulfuro intramoleculares (dentro de la subunidad) permite la desnaturalización completa de las subunidades para que cada péptido migre en función de la longitud de su cadena sin influencia de la estructura secundaria.

  1. In which buffer or solvent should 2-Mercaptoethanol be diluted for working solution preparation?

    1. 2-Mercaptoethanol is compatible with a wide range of common aqueous buffers, such as Laemmli sample buffer, phosphate-buffered saline, or Tris buffer. Certain buffers, such as Tris, can cause oxidation of 2-mercaptoethanol. In these situations, preparation of the solution is recommended just before use.

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

    1. This product is a neat or pure material. The concentration is considered to be 100%. The calculated molarity is 14.3 M as reported in the Properties section of the product page.
      To prepare a 50 mM solution, please mix 0.391 g of M3148 with 100 mL solvent. 0.391 g / 78.13 g/mol / 0.1 L = 0.05 = 50 mM.
