General description

Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid is a diethylenetriaminepentaacetic anhydride, which is a bifunctional chelating agent.[1] It is used for the treatment of poisoning.[2]

Application

Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid has been used:
  • for cofilin activity assay[3]
  • to determine the specificity of superoxide in the transverse aortic constriction (TAC) hearts[4]
  • for Europium bead-based detection assays[5]
  • to detect reduced (S- active) or irreversibly oxidized (SO3H inactive) tyrosine-protein phosphatase non-receptor type 6 (SHP-1) in thymocytes[6]

Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
For more information, please refer to the Product Dating Information document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/418/501/product-dating-information-06-25-mk.pdf

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. What is the Department of Transportation shipping information for this product?

    1 answer
    1. Transportation information can be found in Section 14 of the product's (M)SDS.To access the shipping information for this material, use the link on the product detail page for the product.

      Helpful?

  5. What are the pKa values for Product D6518, Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid?

    1 answer
    1. The pKa values for the carboxyl groups as reported in the reference book "Data for Biochemical Research, 3rd ed., page 402, Oxford University Press, New York (1986)." are 1.8, 2.6, 4.4, 8.8, and 10.4.

      Helpful?

  6. How can I get Product D6518, Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid, to dissolve?

    1 answer
    1. As is the case with other chelating agents such as EDTA and EGTA, the solubility of DTPA is a function of pH.  Therefore, this compound can be solubilized with either the addition of acid such as a hydrochloric acid solution or (more likely) base such as a sodium hydroxide solution .
