Removal of the toxic selenium compounds selenite and selenate from waste water before discharge is becoming increasingly imperative in industrialized countries. Bacteria can reduce selenate to selenite, but also further to elemental selenium, selenide or organic selenium. In this paper

Questions

1–5 of 5 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
For more information, please refer to the Product Dating Information document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/418/501/product-dating-information-06-25-mk.pdf

  2. What is the recommended method of reconstitution? I am currently dissolving the entire 1 mg contents of the bottle in 100 mL distilled water to yield a final solution concentration of 10 micrograms/mL.

    1 answer
    1. This product is tested for solubility at 50 mL per vial in water, where 1 vial contains 1 mg of material. Historically, preparation instructions recommend adding 50 mL of sterile culture medium to prepare a 20 µg/mL stock solution.

      Helpful?

  3. Is there a datasheet for this product? Is it soluble in water like the other sodium selenite products (50 mg/ml), and can stock solutions be frozen at -20C?

    1 answer
    1. A Datasheet is not available for this product. See the link below to review the datasheet available for the non-irradiated version of this product. The information provided applies to both items. The material is soluble in water at 50 mg/mL. Stock solutions are stable up to 30 days when refrigerated at 2 - 8 °C. Aliquots may also be stored frozen at -20°C, Avoid repeated freeze/ thaw cycles.

  4. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  5. How should Product S9133 Sodium selenite, be stored?

    1 answer
    1. This product may be stored at room temperature. For products with no specified storage temperature given on the label or product page, ambient storage may be assumed. Products that require controlled temperature storage, such as refrigeration or freezer conditions, storage temperatures are published on the product label, Certificate of Analysis, and the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
