Application

Alcian Blue 8GX has been used:
  • for the quantification of sulphated glycosaminoglycan[1]
  • to stain differentiated chondrocytes to access proteoglycan′s synthesis by these cells[2][3]
  • to stain Multi-lineage differentiation of hemangioma-derived perivascular cells (Hem-PCs)[3]
  • in histological staining to detect neutral and charged carbohydrate residues[4]

General description

Alcian Blue 8GX is a cationic[1] phthalocyanine dye.[5] It has an ability to interact with sulphated glycosaminoglycan.[1] It is used as a counterstain to visualize histological tissue sections. In addition, alcian blue 8GX also aids in the in-situ quantification of marine biofilms produced by marine bacteria.[5]
