General description

Molecular sieves are synthetically produced zeolites (naturally occurring aluminosilicate minerals), and are characterized by pores and internal cavities of extremely uniform dimensions. These crystalline materials have three-dimensional structures based on silicon oxide (SiO4) and aluminum oxide (AlO4) polyhedra. The polyhedra are linked by their corners to produce an open structure with internal cavities in which molecules can be trapped. These materials are engineered so that access to the internal cavities is through specific and uniform sized pores.

Questions

1–8 of 8 Questions
  1. Is this product a packed column?

    1 answer
    1. This is packing material only; it is not a column. Some endusers will purchase this bottle of packing and prepare their own packed columns.

      Helpful?

  2. What is the Department of Transportation shipping information for this product?

    1 answer
    1. Transportation information can be found in Section 14 of the product's (M)SDS.To access the shipping information for this material, use the link on the product detail page for the product.

      Helpful?

  3. How do you condition Molecular Sieve 5A, Product 20302, when used in a packed column?

    1 answer
    1. Attach the column to your GC injection port, establish a flow rate of at least 25 mL/min carrier gas, purge with carrier gas at room temperature for 30 minutes, increase oven temperature to 225°C at a rate of 4°C/min, and allow the column to condition at 225°C for 8-12 hours. After conditioning, allow the oven to cool to room temperature, turn off the carrier flow and allow the pressure to go to zero. Then reinstall the column into both the injector port and detector port, and establish desired carrier flow rate. The column should then be ready to use.

  4. How can I purchase a column that is packed with this material?

    1 answer
    1. Most packed column are custom made and require that you obtain a quotation. Please contact our Customer & Sales Services group at phone number (800)-247-6628, fax number (800)-447-3044 or email [email protected] for additional information.

      Helpful?

  5. What does 5A refer to in Molecular Sieve 5A, Product 20302?

    1 answer
    1. 5A is a grade of Mol Sieve and refers to a nominal pore size of 5 Angstroms

      Helpful?

  6. What does the 60/80 stand for in the product description?

    1 answer
    1. The 60/80 refers to the mesh size range of the actual particles.  When working with mesh size: the larger the mesh number, the smaller the diameter of the particle.  In this case 60 refers to a diameter of 250 microns and 80 refers to a diameter of 177 microns.  Therefore; the particles in this product with 60/80 will range between 177 microns and 250 microns.

      Helpful?

  7. What is the maximum temperature for this packing?

    1 answer
    1. The maximum temperature for this packing is 400 °C.

      Helpful?

  8. How is Supelco's Molecular Sieve 5A, Product No. 20302, commonly used?

    1 answer
    1. Mol Sieve 5A is commonly packed in columns for the analysis of permanent gases via Gas Chromatography.
