General description

Phenol, also known as hydroxybenzene, is a significant benzene derivative in commercial applications. It serves as a fundamental feedstock to produce polycarbonates, epoxy resins, molding compounds, and phenolic resins. Moreover, phenol finds extensive use in the manufacturing of aniline, caprolactam, and various other chemical derivatives.[1]

Application

Phenol (90% solution in water) is used as a solvent to synthesis low molecular weight phenol-formaldehyde resins.[2]
