The solubility specification was tested at 100 mg/ml in 1 M NaOH (refer to the specification sheet). Probenecid is soluble in chloroform, in dilute solutions of sodium hydroxide, then buffered to pH 7.4, and is nearly insoluble in water. It is also soluble in 1 M NaOH (50 mg/ml), producing a clear, colorless solution.
