Human IL18 / Interleukin-18 ELISA Kit has been used to evaluate the macrophage cytokines production in response to trans-stilbene and terphenyl compounds.[1] It has also been used to analyze and measure IL-18 levels in the urine of chronic kidney disease patients.[2]

General description

The antibody pair provided in this kit detects Human IL-18 in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants, and urine. Interleukin-18 (IL-18) is a proinflammatory cytokine,[3] expressed in most of the mammalian tissues including adipose, liver and skeletal muscle.[4] It is generated as pro-IL-18 which undergoes cleavage to form a mature IL-18 possessing the signal peptide.[4] IL-18 induces Th1 (T helper cell 1) lymphocyte action mediated by interferon-γ.[5] It controls the metabolism of lipids and glucose.[4] Inflammasome activation is responsible for IL-18 release, which is a significant event in response to viral infection.[3] Increased level of IL-18 is observed in kidney and liver disease, diabetes, atherosclerosis,[3] autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis and asthma.[5] It is also associated with the development of renal dysfunction.[3]
