General description

The antibody reacts specifically against insulin by RIA and immunocytochemistry. It exhibits cross-reactivity with human proinsulin. The antibody binds to insulin with an affinity constant of 8.8 × 109 M-1 in RIA. The insulin gene is mapped to human chromosome 11p15.5.
Human insulin is made up of 51 amino acids. It consists of two peptide chains, 21 amino acids make up A-chain and chain B contains 31 amino acids. The two chains are linked together by a disulfide bond, to form a classical insulin fold with three α helices, chain A having two and one in chain B.

Application

For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
Please refer to the attached General ELISA KIT Procedure (sandwich, competitive & Indirect ELISA)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Abnormal insulin secretion or function, leads to diabetes mellitus, obesity and other carbohydrate metabolism disorders. Insulin is known to stimulate cell division. The biological effects of insulin are mediated by insulin receptor and it integrates major signaling pathways.
