Application
Also used to prepare the standard solution for identification and assay of tobramycin and its different dosage forms using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and liquid chromatography (LC) combined with UV detection at 365 nm respectively, as prescribed in the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for the following monographs:
- Tobramycin
- Tobramycin for Injection
- Tobramycin Ophthalmic Ointment
- Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution
- Tobramycin Injection
- Tobramycin Sulfate
- Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Suspension
- Tobramycin Inhalation Solution
- Tobramycin and Fluorometholone Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension
- Tobramycin and Dexamethasone Ophthalmic Ointment
Biochem/physiol Actions
Mode of Action: Binds to 70S ribosomal subunit; inhibits translocation; elicits miscoding.
Spectrum of Activity: Gram negative bacteria. Not effective against Enterococci.
