Lentinan is a β-(1,3)-glucan with β-(1,6) branches, extracted primarily from shiitake mushrooms and used in medicine and dietary supplements. It exhibits potential antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-diabetic, neuroprotective, and antioxidant properties. Lentinan acts as a biological response modifier and immunostimulant, improving intestinal barrier integrity by enhancing tight junction proteins, restoring redox balance, and reducing serum lipopolysaccharide levels.
