Application

Spermidine has been used:
  • as a component of chromosome isolation buffer[1][2]
  • as a component of transcription buffer[3]
  • as a component of homogenization buffer[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Inhibits neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS). Binds and precipitates DNA; Stimulates T4 polynucleotide kinase activity.

Spermidine modulates various cellular activities like cellular growth and development, stability of DNA and apoptosis.[5]

General description

Spermidine is a polyamine[5] and a trivalent organic cation.[6]Spermidine is a naturally occurring polyamine compound with diverse biochemical properties. It plays a vital role in gene expression, participating in DNA replication, transcription, and translation processes. Spermidine is crucial for cell growth, proliferation, and differentiation, influencing cell cycle progression and tissue development. It possesses antioxidant activity, safeguarding cells against oxidative stress by scavenging free radicals. Spermidine also stimulates autophagy, promoting the turnover of damaged organelles and protein aggregates for cellular homeostasis. With neuroprotective effects, it supports neuronal survival, synaptic plasticity, and guards against neurodegenerative diseases. Additionally, spermidine modulates cellular signaling pathways involved in inflammation and immune responses.

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

    1. This product is considered a pure material rather than a solution. The concentration can be determined by dividing the density by the molecular weight and correcting for units. This gives 6.37M, which would then need to be multiplied by the batch-specific density for the batch in question, as the material is not 100% pure.

    1. Both items are from Buchs. Item 85558-1g comes in a narrow neck glass bottle, 5 ml, amber. Item 43816-10mL is a 15 ml plastic tube made of polypropylene (PP) and includes a sterile cap.
