Application

Behenic acid may be used as a reference standard for the determination of behenic acid in biological samples by electron ionization-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (EI-GC-MS),[1] in Amazonian palm berry, Euterpe oleraceae Mart. (Acai) by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) with MS,[2] and in commercial edible oilseeds by transmethylation followed by analysis using GC combined with flame ionization detector (FID).[3]

General description

Behenic acid is a saturated fatty acid with cholesterol-raising ability in humans.[4]
This substance is listed on the positive list of the EU regulation 10/2011 for plastics intended to come into contact with food.
