Biochem/physiol Actions

Extracellular-signal-regulated kinase 1 (ERK1)/ Extracellular-signal-regulated kinase 2 (ERK2), as part of the Ras-Raf-MEK-ERK signal transduction cascade, are involved in regulating a wide range of cellular processes, including cell adhesion, cell cycle progression, cell migration, cell survival, differentiation, metabolism, proliferation, and transcriptional control.[1] Additionally, ERK1 signaling contributes to the regulation of cyclin D1 expression during the cell cycle.[2] MAP kinases play a crucial role in inflammation and immune responses by regulating the production of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines, as well as prostaglandins, in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation.[3]
