Application

Sodium pyruvate has been used:
  • To prepare Bull Tyrode′s albumin-lactate-pyruvate diluent.[1]
  • In pyruvate tolerance test.[2]
  • To prepare oligodendrocyte culture medium.[3]

General description

Sodium pyruvate (SP) is a simplest keto-acid. It crystallizes as very thin plates and belongs to the monoclinic system.[4] Its utility in Knoevenagel condensation carried out in an aqueous medium has been examined.[5] The standard molar enthalpy of formation and molar enthalpy of dissolution of SP at infinite dilution have been obtained.[6] Its efficacy in treating mitochondrial DNA depletion syndromes has been investigated.[7]

Questions

1–5 of 5 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How long this powder is stable at room temperature?

    1 answer
    1. This item is stored refrigerated at 2-8°C. However, the product ships at ambient temperature. Refrigerated products that ship at ambient temperature are considered stable up to 2 weeks for transit time. Additional stability studies have not been conducted.

      Helpful?

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

      Helpful?

  4. Could you please specify the stability period of Pyruvate after it has been reconstituted? Is there an effective method for the long-term storage of Pyruvate once it has been reconstituted in DMSO? Could you provide the recommended storage conditions?

    1 answer
    1. The sodium pyruvate powder is intended to be stored at 2-8°C. A stability study of this chemical reconstituted in DMSO has not been evaluated. There is an aqueous solution option for sodium pyruvate that is sterile-filtered as product S8636. This specific product is stable for up to 24 months when stored at 2-8°C.
