General description

Method: Colorimetric, with test strips, 10 - 40 - 80 - 180 - 400 mg/L (SO32-), MQuant®

The MQuant® Sulfite test strips are suitable for food analysis, particularly in the testing of wine and fruit juices, sulfurated foods (e.g. fresh and dried fruits), fish, shellfish, crustaceans and minced meat products. Sulfite ions react with a mixture of potassium hexacyanoferrate(II), zinc sulfate, and sodium nitroprusside to form a red compound. The sulfite concentration is measured semi-quantitatively by visual comparison of the reaction zone of the test strip with the fields of a color scale. The test strips are perfect for pre-testing a sample in an economic and quick way to estimate the sulfite concentration and a possible dilution factor prior to using a quantitative method such as a Reflectoquant® or Spectroquant® Sulfite test.

Design for sustainability benefits:

We continue to demonstrate our commitment to our planet and a sustainable future by exploring ways to improve existing products in our portfolio. We have recently reviewed the current line of MQuant® test strips to identify key opportunities to minimize impact without compromising on the product performance.

This product has benefited from:

  • Test strip with reduction
  • Recycled aluminum tube
  • Digital instruction leaflet

Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. We produce canned food, and sometimes our products contain Mata-Bi-sulfite as preservative. I would like to to verify that products produced after the mentioned allergenic products, contain less than 10 PPM sulfite. Will these strips do the job?

    1 answer
    1. These test strips have a measuring range of 10 - 400 mg/L or 10 - 400 ppm Sulfite. This product would not be suitable for concentration of less than 10 ppm. Please see the links below to review more sensitive tests available:

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  6. Can I test sulfite in urine with these test strips?

    1 answer
    1. This product is not specifically tested for use with urine samples. Typical sample materials include wastewater. Suitability of this product for the analysis of urine samples would have to be determined by the end user. Kindly review the user guide available at this link: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/product/documents/408/087/110013ug-ms.pdf
