Propofol may be used as a pharmaceutical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in emulsion dosage form by sequential injection technique with spectrophotometric and fluorimetric detections.[1]

General description

Propofol is approved for induction and maintenance of paediatric anesthesia and sedation in children less than 3 years of age. The mechanism of action involves interaction with gamma-aminobutyric acid A receptor. Rapid effect and fewer side effects like postoperative nausea makes propofol a popular intravenous anesthetic agents.[2]
