General description
Milchdehydrogenase (LDH) hat eine gesamte Molekülmasse von 140 kDa und besteht aus 4 Untereinheiten, die M-Untereinheit (Muskel) und H-Untereinheit (Herz) genannt werden. Diese Untereinheiten können in jeder von 5 Kombinationen gemischt sein (M4, M3H1, M2H2, MH3 und H4). Skelettmuskel enthält LDH, das hauptsächlich M4 ist, mit kleinen Mengen M3H und Spuren von M2H2. Die H- und M-Untereinheiten weisen eine sehr ähnliche Molekülmasse auf, unterscheiden sich aber wesentlich in ihrer Aminosäurenzusammensetzung. Kaninchenmuskel-LDH dissoziiert in Acetatchlorid bei einem pH-Wert von 5,0 zu dimeren Spezies (Molekülmasse = ~70 kDa). Die Dissoziation ist reversibel. Biochemistry, 13, 3527-3531 (1974). Oxidiert Glyoxylat und Lactat.

Application
L-Lactic Dehydrogenase from rabbit muscle has been used:
- for protein-binding measurement
- to detect the action of oxaloacetate decarboxylase
- to determine serum L- and D-lactate
Biochem/physiol Actions
Katalysiert auch die Oxidation von anderen L-2-Hydroxymonocarbonsäuren.
Lactic dehydrogenase is responsible for the conversion of pyruvate to lactate in the fermentative metabolism.
