Myriocin von Mycelia sterilia wurde in verschiedenen Studien als Inhibitor der Sphingolipid- oder Ceramid-Biosynthese eingesetzt.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Myriocin von Mycelia sterilia ist ein Pilzmetabolit mit stark immunsupprimierender Aktivität. Es hemmt Serin-Palmitoyltransferase bei pikomolaren Konzentrationen und blockiert so die Synthese von Ceramid, einem Vorläufer von Sphingomyelin und Glycosphingolipiden. Es stört die Substratanhaftung von Melanomzellen. Die These wurde aufgestellt, dass seine immunsupprimierenden Aktivitäten in der zytotoxischen T-Zelllinie CTTL-2 auf eine Induktion der Apoptose zurückzuführen ist.

Preparation Note

The material is readily and completely dissolved in 2 mg/ml methanol after heating at 55°C for several minutes.
