General description

Questions

1–10 of 10 Questions
  1. After mixing the powder with N/S to produce a 50mg/ml stock STZ solution, can it be stored at -20 or -80 without degradation?

    1 answer
    1. This material is unstable in solution. To ensure full potency, solutions should be prepared fresh and not stored. Please see the link below to review additional information available in the product datasheet:

  2. Can I prepare an STZ solution using 1X PBS with this product? If so, could you provide the appropriate concentration?

    1 answer
    1. This product, Streptozocin, has not been tested for solubility in phosphate-buffered saline. However, other sources report solubility in phosphate-buffered saline at pH 7.2, approximately 5 mg/mL. It is not recommended to use phosphate-buffered saline as a solvent since it has not been tested. The decision on the solvent should be made by the end user. This product should be dissolved in water at 50 mg/mL to produce a light yellow solution, which can range from clear to slightly hazy. A 20 mM citrate buffer at pH 4.5 is recommended for optimal solution stability. The product should be used immediately after solubilization, as storage in solution form is not recommended due to instability.

  3. What's the bottle size for Streptozotocin 50mg

    1 answer
    1. The 50mg pack size is packaged in a 20mL amber glass bottle.

      Helpful?

  4. Can Streptozotocin be transported at ambient temperature, without losing his integrity?

    1 answer
    1. This product is shipped on dry ice and may degrade if exposed to ambient temperatures for extended periods. The product is stable when stored frozen and protected from moisture and air.

To further discuss shipping temperature of this material Please navigate to the link https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/support/customer-support, click on "Products Pricing & Availability" under the Products Section with all the required information so that a member of the Customer Service team can reach out to assist further. 5. What is the half-life of Product S0130, Streptozocin?

    1 answer
    1. Streptozocin has a reported half life of 15 to 30 minutes.

      Helpful?

  6. How can I make a solution of Product S0130, Streptozocin?

    1 answer
    1. This product dissolves in water at 50 mg/mL to give a light yellow solution, from clear to slightly hazy. We recommend using a 20 mM citrate buffer at pH 4.5 for best solution stability.

  7. Can Product S0130, Streptozocin, be used to induce diabetes?  What concentration should be used?

    1 answer
    1. We do not test Streptozocin, Product No. S0130 for biological activity.  We recommend screening lots for biological activity.  An intravenous injection of streptozocin into rats at a dose of 65 mg/kg body weight to induce diabetes has been reported by Burcelin R. et al. in Biochem. J., 291, 109-113 (1993).

      Helpful?

  8. How should I store Product S0130, Streptozocin, upon receipt?

    1 answer
    1. Streptozocin should be stored at -20 degrees C with desiccation.  The desiccant is to prevent moisture uptake which can shorten shelf-life.

  9. What is the Department of Transportation shipping information for this product?

    1 answer
    1. Transportation information can be found in Section 14 of the product's (M)SDS.To access the shipping information for this material, use the link on the product detail page for the product.

  10. How do I store solutions of Product S0130, Streptozocin?

    1 answer
    1. Aqueous solutions rapidly undergo mutarotation to an equilibrium mixture of alpha- and beta-anomers.  Maximum solution stability is at pH 4, with stability decreasing rapidly at higher or lower pH. Freshly prepared solutions are clear and have a light straw color. On standing, they take on a yellow to brown color and effervesce, indicating decomposition.   Solutions should be prepared just before use, since the product is unstable.
