Streptolysin O from Streptococcus pyogenes has been used in streptolysin O (SLO) permeabilization. It has also been used to evaluate the barrier integrity and cytotoxicity of caco-2 and T84 IEC polarized monolayers.

Streptolysin O (SLO), obtained from Streptococcus pyogenes has the capability to block osteoclastogenesis, induced by receptor activator of nuclear factor κ-Β ligand (RANK) through the NF-κB signaling pathway. Streptococcus pyogenes (GAS) is a bacterial strain that results in bacterial arthritis, osteomyelitis and implant infections.
