Ferrostatin-1 ist ein starker Inhibitor des als Ferroptose bezeichneten, durch Erastin induzierten nicht apoptotischen Zelltods.
Ferrostatin-1 ist ein starker Inhibitor des als Ferroptose bezeichneten, durch Erastin induzierten nicht apoptotischen Zelltods. Ferrostatin-1 verhindert den ferroptopischen Zelltod in Krebszellen und die glutamatinduzierte Toxizität in organotypischen Hirnschnitten von Ratten. Ferrostatin-1 scheint die fettlöslichen reaktiven Sauerstoffspezies (ROS) zu steuern.
Ferrostatin-1 ist ein aktive Radikale fangendes Antioxidans, das Peroxylradikale fängt und so als potenzieller Inhibitor der Ferroptose wirkt. Die Ferroptose wird als regulierte Nekrose angesehen, die sich von der Apoptose und Autophagie unterscheidet. Ferrostatin-1 zeigt bekanntermaßen eine Schutzwirkung gegen Morbus Huntington und verhindert in Zellmodellen die von Glutamat induzierte Neurotoxizität.
