General description

This item is a direct replacement for SCGPT05RE
Work with ease and filter with confidence with Stericup® and Steritop® Filtration Systems.

Stericup® and Steritop® sterile filtration devices use reliable, high-performance membranes for optimum sterile filtration of laboratory reagents, buffers, and media. These devices combine superior flow rates and throughput with low non-specific binding and a stable, no-tip design.

This Steritop® 500 mL bottle-top with 0.22 μm pore size polyethersulfone (PES) membrane filter unit can be used on bottles with 45 mm openings, designed for vacuum applications.

Application

For Research Use Only
Stericup® and Steritop® systems are designed to reduce foaming and protein denaturation while maximizing flow and can be used for sterile vacuum filtration of aqueous solutions such as tissue culture media and biological fluids.

  • Tissue culture media +/- additives
  • Buffers
  • Biological solutions

Features and Benefits

Bold product identification on the Steritop® filter funnel plainly displays membrane characteristics, including composition and pore size, for rapid, application-appropriate product selection.

Questions

1–10 of 15 Questions
  1. What tubing can be used with Stericup® and Steritop® vacuum filters?

What tubing can be used with Stericup® and Steritop® vacuum filters?

    1 answer
    1. Stericup® and Steritop® filters are fitted with a 1/4” tube adapter. We recommend 3/16 in. (4.8 mm) ID silicone tubing to fit this tube adapter: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/product/mm/xx7100004

      Helpful?

  2. What is the expiration date of Stericup® and Steritop® filters?

    1 answer
    1. Typically 3 years from sterilization.

      Helpful?

  3. Can Stericup® and Steritop® filters be reused?

    1 answer
    1. All Stericup® and Steritop® filters were developed for single use, disposable processing.

      Helpful?

  4. Can we filter oil-type liquids with Stericup® filters?

Can we filter oil-type liquids with Stericup® filters?

    1 answer
    1. Likely not, due to pore size/possible fouling/chemical compatibility. Refer to our guide, "Chemical compatibility of filter components": https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/product/documents/302/855/membrane-chemical-compatibility-ds2532en-ms.pdf

    1 answer
    1. Helpful?

  6. What is the maximum vacuum pressure for filtration?

    1 answer
    1. 700 mm Hg (27.5” Hg, 0.9 bar) differential vacuum at 25 °C (77 °F)

      Helpful?

  7. Can Stericup® bottles be placed inside freezers for long-term storage of media?

    1 answer
    1. You can successfully freeze and store many aqueous solutions (such as culture media) in Stericup® bottles at temperatures up to -20 °C (-4 °F). It is strongly recommended that you run a sample stability trial under your actual storage conditions prior to using Stericup® bottles for frozen storage.

      Helpful?

  8. Are Stericup® and Steritop® filters GMP-certified?

    1 answer
    1. No, Stericup® and Steritop® devices are not GMP-approved.

      Helpful?

  9. What is the difference between classic Stericup® filters and Stericup® “Quick Release” filters?

    1 answer
    1. Stericup® Quick Release, or “QR”, filters feature a connection between funnel filter and receiver bottle that requires only a quarter-turn release to facilitate funnel removal. These filters come fully engaged – there is no need to tighten before use. The receiver bottle cap has flanges on the top surface to improve grip, as well as a positive lock stop to ensure a leak-proof seal with the receiver bottle. Other improvements include a large, frosted writing surface on the receiver bottle and a lighter cap color to facilitate labelling, more prominent volume markings on the filtration funnel and receiver bottle, and a product label with a peel-off lot record strip on the bag for easy viewing in storage.
