Application

Starch was used for incorporating the erogenous cholesterol ester and [3H] Cholesteryl ethers into rat high density lipoprotein (HDL).[1]It was used for preparing Ac medium for studying the fungal diversity in deep-sea hydrothermal ecosystems.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Starch is a carbohydrate made up of glucose units joined by glycosidic bonds. Undigested part of potato starch is referred as Resistant starch (RS). Resistant starch, RS4 reduces the concentrations of total cholesterol and triglycerides in the serum as well as enhances the concentration of HDL-cholesterol in Wistar rats.[3]

The uptake of high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-associated apolipoprotein A-I and cholesterol esters was estimated in 16 tissues of the rat using rat HDL doubly labeled with nondegradable tracers; covalently attached 125I-tyramine-cellobiose traced apo-A-I, and [3H]cholesteryl linoleyl ether traced cholesterol esters. Plastic pollution has become one of the most critical environmental issues, as rapidly increasing production, compounded by persistence of plastic wastes in the environment, are outpacing efforts to keep ecosystems plastic-free. A switch to plastics more amenable to microbial attack
