General description

Ethylene glycol is the major component of antifreeze preparations.[1]

Application

Ethylene glycol may be used in the preparation of spiroborate esters by reacting with chiral 1,2-aminoalcohols in the presence of triisopropyl borate.[2] It may also be used as a solvent in the preparation of tris(2,2′-bipyrazyl)ruthenium(II) chloride by the reaction of 2,2′-bipyrazine with ruthenium(III) chloride.[3]

Questions

1–6 of 6 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
For more information, please refer to the Product Dating Information document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/418/501/product-dating-information-06-25-mk.pdf

  2. What are quantities of the trace elements in this product? It is important that I know for my synthesis.

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, trace element analysis is not performed on this product. Please see product 1.09621 for an alternative product option that includes testing for specific analytes and contaminating substances:

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. what is the expiry data of Ethylene glycol anhydrous 99.8% reagent of Batch SHBL6653 with product code 324558.

    1 answer
    1. This product is not assigned an expiration date or recommended retest date. Customers should routinely inspect products with no expiration date or recommended retest date to ensure they perform as expected. These products are also subject to a one-year warranty from the date of shipment.

For more information, you may access the "Product Dating Information" document under "ADDITIONAL USEFUL DOCUMENTS ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS" at the bottom of the Quality Services page with this link: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/life-science/quality-and-regulatory-management/quality-services.

  5. What is the molarity of ethylene glycol?

    1 answer
    1. Ethylene glycol is 17.93M.  This is calculated using the density (1.113 g/ml) and the molecular weight (62.07 g/mol).  If the product is less than 100% pure, correct for the purity.
