EDDP jest głównym metabolitem metadonu w moczu, syntetycznego opioidu stosowanego w medycynie jako środek przeciwbólowy i jako podtrzymujący środek przeciw uzależnieniu u pacjentów uzależnionych od opioidów. Ten stabilnie znakowany wzorzec wewnętrzny jest odpowiedni dla metod testowania EDDP i metadonu za pomocą GC/MS lub LC/MS do analizy kryminalistycznej, testowania narkotyków w moczu lub toksykologii klinicznej.
