Opis

General description

Effect of soda lime on the degradation of sevoflurane has been studied. Degradation products were investigated for their toxicity.

Soda lime is a mixture of calcium hydroxide with sodium or potassium hydroxide. When not stored in sealed containers, it quickly deteriorates due to carbon dioxide and water absorption. In laboratories, it is also used as a drying agent.

Application

Soda lime can be used:

• As a hydrolysis reagent in the synthesis of bentazone from isatoic anhydride.
• In the monitoring of CO₂ efflux from field soils.
• In the direct measurement of dissolved CO₂ (carbon dioxide) in supersaturated water.

Soda lime may be employed for the conversion of α-amino acids to primary amines.
