Descrizione generale

Dopamine (DA) works as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.[1] It is a catecholamine made from the amino acid L-tyrosine. It also works as a hormone in the vesicles of the adrenal medulla, thereby controlling heart beat rate and blood pressure. The Absence of DA-containing neurons is associated with Parkinson’s disease.[2]Dopamine is produced and released by the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra that is in the central nervous system.[3] It is involved in several activities such as movement, behaviour, learning, reward, punishment, dreaming, working, memory, mood, sleep, attention, and inhibition of prolactin production. Dopamine also acts as a precursor in the synthesis of catecholamines like epinephrine and norepinephrine.[4] Increased levels of dopamine via the tuberoinfundibular pathway are associated with Schizophrenia, hallucinations, euphoria, and psychosis.[4] A deficiency of dopamine and norepinephrine indicates the neurochemical basis for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a pediatric disorder.[5]

Applicazioni

Dopamine hydrochloride has been used:
  • to study dopamine-mediated transient modulation of the physiological responses in white leg shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei.[6]
  • to study dopamine-mediated changes in immunity susceptibility to Lactococcus garvieae in the freshwater giant prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii.[7]
  • to study the molecular link between dopamine-induced oxidative stress and mHtt (mutant Huntingtin) toxicity in relation to the activation of the autophagy pathway in an ‘in vitro’ model of parkinsonian Huntington′s Disease.[8]
  • as a substrate of the prophenoloxidase (PPO) cascade reaction in the anti-microbial assay targeting methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in the biofilm phase.[9]
  • added exogenously to the culture medium to study its effect on H. contortus female worms.[10]

  1. How long can it be stored? I found two in our lab, but one at room temperature for years and another one in 10 oC fridge.

    1. This material should be stored refrigerated temperature at 2 - 8 °C. The product is assigned a retest date of approximately 2 years from the date of Quality release. The quality of this item cannot be quatanteed if stored outside of the recommended conditions for extended periods.     1. Regarding the solubility of product H8502, it can be dissolved in alcohol at a concentration of 20 mg/mL or in water (H2O) at 100 mg/mL. It is recommended that solutions be prepared fresh and not stored for long-term use. Preparing aliquots for storage at -20°C or keeping the product in solution at 4-8°C is not advised.

      Dopamine, the active component, is sensitive to light and the free base form is particularly prone to oxidation. Solutions with a pH range of 5.4 to 6.8 have been reported to remain stable for a maximum of 48 hours at 25°C, beyond which the solution may darken and become unusable.

      Dopamine solutions should not be mixed with alkalis, iron salts, or oxidizing agents, and are known to be incompatible with certain antibiotics, including amphotericin, ampicillin, gentamicin sulfate, and benzylpenicillin.

    1. Unfortunately, this product is not tested as an analytical standard for use in LCMSMS.

    1. The recommended storage temperature for this product is 2-8°C. In general, powder materials are not affected by freezer storage, however, this item has not been tested under these storage conditions.
