General description

Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase is a NADH-dependent cytosolic enzyme. It can be used as a catalytic enzyme. Its activity is higher under osmotic stress.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Heat inactivation: GDH is rapidly inactivated at temperatures > 65 °C.

Preparation Note

Activator: EDTA

Analysis Note

Contaminants: <0.001% aldolase and GAP-DH, each, <0.01% LDH and TIM, each

Other Notes

For life science research only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
Unit Conversion: One unit (+25 °C) = 2 units (+37 °C). Biochemica Information, 87

The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae responds to osmotic stress, i.e., an increase in osmolarity of the growth medium, by enhanced production and intracellular accumulation of glycerol as a compatible solute. We have cloned a gene encoding the key enzyme of glycerol
