General description

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) is a small (~6 kDa) recombinant mitogenic polypeptide expressed in E. coli and supplied as a lyophilized powder. EGF is widely distributed in mammalian tissues and mediates cellular responses through ErbB family receptor tyrosine kinases, including EGFR/ErbB1. This product is suitable for in vitro mammalian cell culture research applications.

Application

Recombinant mouse EGF has been used as a supplement in cell culture research applications, including basal N2B27 medium for culturing differentiated mouse embryonic stem (E14) cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) is a mitogenic factor involved in the regulation of cellular proliferation, differentiation, and survival in vitro. EGF exhibits activity across multiple mammalian cell types, including fibroblasts, epithelial cells, and endothelial cells, through signaling via EGF receptor family pathways.

Physical form

The product is lyophilized from a 0.2 μm-filtered solution of phosphate buffered saline (PBS), pH 7.4.
