General description

Staphylococcal enterotoxin B is a toxic bacterial superantigen. The staphylococcal enterotoxins family have high sequence similarity.

Immunogen

Staphylococcal enterotoxin B from Staphylococcus aureus.

Application

Anti-Staphylococcal Enterotoxin B antibody produced in rabbit has been used:
  • to conjugate with hollow gold nanosphere and as a component of lateral flow immunoassay strip
  • in antibody sandwich immunoassay
  • for coupling with magnetic beads for detection assay

Biochem/physiol Actions

Staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) is a superantigen that binds to class II MHC molecules on antigen presenting cells. It stimulates large populations of T cells resulting in acute toxic shock syndrome. It is resistant to denaturation and causes outbreaks of food poisoning that includes emetic responses, diarrhea and GI inflammation.
Staphylococcal enterotoxin B compromises the immune system by triggering inflammation and cytokine release.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.2.

Preparation Note

Reconstitute with 2 ml deionized water.

technique(s)

indirect ELISA: 1:150,000-1:250,000

technique(s)

immunoblotting: 0.5-1 μg/mL using staphylococcal enterotoxin B. , ELISA: 0.12-0.25 μg/mL using 1 μg/ml staphylococcal enterotoxin B for coating.

technique(s)

indirect ELISA: 1:50,000, dot blot: 1:20,000

technique(s)

flow cytometry: suitable, immunoblotting: suitable, dot blot: suitable, immunoprecipitation (IP): 2.5-5 μg/test using purified protein A from Staphylococcus aureus, immunofluorescence: suitable, indirect ELISA: 0.25-0.5 μg/mL using 10 μg/mL of protein A from Staphylococcus aureus for coating. To reduce nonspecific binding we recommend on detection using a secondary anti-mouse, F(ab’)2 fragment antibody
