General description

Glassy carbon shows only short range order in its structure. Photoacoustic doppler effect from the suspension of spherical carbon particles was investigated. Glassy carbon exhibits a specific conductivity of 700Scm-1. 4

Application

Amorphous carbon may be used to develop zero temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) based systems. Glassy carbon has been used as a catalyst support for bimetallic Rh–ReOx. It may be used to enhance the accuracy of infrared (IR) surface temperature measurements on micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS).
•Electrochemical Applications: as Electrodes thanks to excellent conductivity and inertness; as Substrate for catalytic materials in Electrochemical Sensors; Modified with catalysts for green catalysis.
•High-Temperature Applications: as Crucibles, as Furnace Components; as Thermocouple Protection.
•Semiconductor Industry: as Wafer Handling (wafer holders and susceptors); as durable electrode material for plasma etching and ion implantation.
•Biomedical Applications: as load-bearing joints and dental implants; as Scaffold material for Tissue Engineering.
•Other Applications: Antistatic Agent (prevents static electricity buildup in packaging); Molding Materials (precision and glass molding); as Fuel Cell Electrodes.

  1. For Product 484164, Pb, As, Cd, and Hg are not listed in the CoA. Are these metals analyzed? If so, could you provide the results/limits? Also, is there any safety information on short-term application to intact human skin?

    1. This product is not tested for the presence of Lead (Pb), Arsenic (As), Cadmium (Cd), or Mercury (Hg). However, historical records indicate that a single lot was reported to have 0.044 ppm Cd. This material is tested for the elements listed below. The values are lot-specific and reported in the product Certificate of Analysis. There is a maximum allowable total trace metals specification of 500 ppm. This product has not been evaluated for short-term contact to intact human skin and is intended for laboratory research use only. As referenced in Section 4 of the product SDS, in case of skin contact, take off immediately all contaminated clothing; rinse skin with water/ shower:

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  4. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature.
