General description

α-Ketoglutaric acid is a 2-oxocarboxylic acid (2-OCA) that is formed as a metabolite in the Kreb′s cycle.

Application

α-ketoglutaric acid along with L-arginine can undergo reduction with sodium cyanoborohydride to form the diastereomers, nopaline and isonopaline.

    1. The pKa values are not determined for this product. Based on literature data for α-ketoglutaric acid (CAS 328-50-7): pKa1 ≈ 2.5; pKa2 ≈ 4.3. In addition, literature references a pKa ≈ 2.47 at 25°C for one dissociation step. Slight variation may occur with varying experimental conditions. This information has not been validated.

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
