Application

Somatostatin has been used in cell culture. It has also been used in the study of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity in monolayer cultures of thyroid epithelial cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Somatostatin regulates the endocrine system and affects neurotransmission and cell proliferation via interaction with G protein-coupled somatostatin receptors and inhibition of the release of numerous secondary hormones.
Somatostatin (SST) is a peptide. It performs several functions like anti-proliferation, pro-apoptosis and anti-migration. Somatostatin performs physiological activities with the help of various G protein-coupled receptor subtypes (SST receptor (SSTR)-1, SSTR2A, SSTR2B, and SSTR3–5).

Physical form

powder-0 °C; stock-frozen in working aliquots, avoid repeated freeze/thaw

Preparation Note

To prepare 2 μg/ml stock solution, dissolve in 5 ml sterile culture medium per μg somatostatin.

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. こちらの製品を溶解後-20℃に凍結保存した場合、どれほどの期間安定(使用可能)か情報がございましたら教えてください。 よろしくお願いいたします。

    1 answer
    1. This product is soluble in water at 1mg/mL. Working aliquots may be stored at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Long-term stability studies have not been performed. However, various sources state the this compound is stable in solution at 4°C several days and may be stored frozen for extended periods with the addition of a carrier protein (HSA or BSA) at 0.1%. This information has not been validated.

      Helpful?

  2. Do I need to filter it after reconstituting it in sterile water?

    1 answer
    1. This is not a sterile powder. Stock solutions should be filter sterilized prior to use.

      Helpful?

  3. Can I reconstitute Somatostatin in sterile water or PBS?

    1 answer
    1. This product can be reconstituted in sterile water at 1mg/mL. While it is very likely soluble at this rate in PBS as well, we have not tested the product to confirm.
