Biochem/physiol Actions
ビリベルジンレダクターゼは色素ビリベルジンIXが青緑色から橙黄色に変化する反応を触媒する酵素であり、ビリベルジンIXの2番目と3番目のピロール環の間にある二重結合を単結合に変換します[1]。この酵素には補酵素に依存した2種類の至適pHがあります。酸性域のpH 6.0~6.7ではNADHが利用され、アルカリ性域のpH 8.5~8.7ではNADPHが利用されます[2]。ビリベルジンレダクターゼは生理的な細胞保護剤であると考えられています。ビリベルジンレダクターゼによってラットの実験的な自己免疫性脳脊髄炎が抑制されています[3]。一方、ビリベルジンレダクターゼの欠乏は細胞のオキシダント蓄積や細胞死の増大を引き起こします[4]。

ビリベルジンリダクターゼの1ユニットは、100 mM K-リン酸緩衝液を用いたNADPH依存性反応において、pH 8.5、37°Cで1分間に1 nmolのビリベルジンをビリルビンへと変換させる量です。
