General description
Application
Biochem/physiol Actions
Clavulanate is a β-lactam antibiotic related to the penicillins. Clavulanate competitively and irreversibly inhibits a wide variety of β-lactamases[3] found in bacteria that are resistant to penicillins and cephalosporins.[4]
Formulations of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid prevent the degradation of amoxicillin by β-lactamase enzymes. This increases amoxicillin′s antibacterial activity against bacteria normally resistant to β-lactam antibiotics.[5]

What are the uses and potential reactions of Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium
1 answer-
This product is supplied for research purposes with the primary use as an antibiotic. Formulations of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid prevent the degradation of amoxicillin by β-lactamase enzymes. This increases amoxicillin's antibacterial activity against bacteria normally resistant to β-lactam antibiotics. Please see the peer-reviewed paper section in the link below for potential use information.
